Updates From the Academic Office 

As the long days of July draw to a close, we are turning the corner into August, which means the start of the new year! Preparations on campus are intensifying and excitement is building! All faculty revise and improve their courses each year. Some exciting developments include revisions to the Biology and Spanish curricula, and several new courses as well, including Forest Ecology, Advanced Chemistry, Technology and Innovation, Español 5, and Fiber Arts.

 

Here are a few reminders:

 

Summer Reading for Advanced and AP Courses

 

We expect all students enrolling in advanced and AP courses to be well along in their summer reading by now and hope they are enjoying expanding their knowledge, making discoveries and building new questions.

 

The deadline for summer reading assignments for advanced seminar and AP courses is midnight on August 17. Meeting this deadline is a condition for enrolling in advanced and AP courses: it shows that you prioritize your academic commitments and can manage your time effectively. 

 

This deadline also allows us to reconfigure schedules as needed.

 

Extensions are rare and are granted only by advance request due to circumstances beyond a student's control, or other unusual situations.

 

Summer Reading For All Other Courses

 

For all other courses, the deadline for the summer reading is the first class in the first week of September. Classes will open with work on these readings. We hope this reading is enjoyable and fruitful! 

 

Competency Tests for Advancing in the Curriculum

 

Competency tests for students undertaking summer work in Math or other courses with the aim of advancing in our curriculum will take place after supper on September 1. Any student expecting to take a test at this time is encouraged to let us know soon.

 

Schedules

Many students have already been in touch to refine the first draft of their schedules. We encourage anyone with questions to reach out.
