Ms. Pratt's Taylor Swift Listening Guide

Ms. Pratt's Taylor Swift Listening Guide

As some of you may already know, I am a big fan of Taylor Swift, and she has a new album coming out tomorrow! 🧑 Now, I get that she is not for everyone. Once upon a time, I was not really a fan myself. I mean, some of her songs were catchy, but I didn't really get the hype. But that eventually changed for me, and I am grateful that I took the time to listen.

So in case any of you were curious about why so many of us have fallen down the Swiftie rabbit hole, I have compiled a list of recommendations.

Without further ado, I now present:

🎢🎡 MS. PRATT'S LIST OF TSWIFT SONGS YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO IF YOU ARE EVEN A LITTLE BIT CURIOUS ABOUT HER MUSIC (A Top 12 List Because 10 Was Too Hard) 🎡🎢

1. Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince
2. Marjorie
3. Delicate
4. Clean
5. The Man
6. You're On Your Own Kid
7. My Tears Ricochet
8. Our Song
9. Evermore (ft. Bon Iver)
10. This is Me Trying
11. All Too Well (Taylor's Version) (10 Minute Version)
12. Long Live

Do I still have your attention? Good. Here are the explanations for why I chose these songs (with links):

1. Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince - This song has an interesting structure and some great storytelling. I personally love a song where the lyrics are a bit heavy but the tune is a bit catchy. Taylor is great at those. (YouTube link)
2. Marjorie - A beautiful song about her grandmother, and losing someone close to you.
3. Delicate - An iconic music video, if only for the dance moves. It is about the fragility of a new relationship.
4. Clean - An uplifting song about closure and growth.
5. The Man - A song about stereotypes and people not taking you seriously based on who you are. Plus the music video is hilarious.
6. You're On Your Own Kid - A song all about finding yourself.
7. My Tears Ricochet - This song was written in response to the loss of her master recordings and the betrayal of people she trusted. It is structured so well, and is fabulous if you need an angry song to scream along with.
8. Our Song - I felt like I needed to include one of her earlier songs, and this one is fun and sweet.
9. Evermore (ft. Bon Iver) - I see this song as a telling of what it is like getting through a winter of depression and coming out the other side. It really captures the slow, quiet reflection that happens when going through a difficult time in life.
10. This is Me Trying - This song is about depression and addiction, and doing the best that you can, even if it doesn't seem like enough. I personally think these lyrics are some of her most powerful and poetic.
11. All Too Well (Taylor's Version) (10 Minute Version) - Okay, lock in for this one. It started as a shorter song, but was so beloved as a piece of her storytelling, she released a 10 minute version. She even released another song called "The Manuscript" years later that was a song about how this song took on a life of its own among fans, and there's a short film of the 10 min version starring Sadie Sink. There is deep lore and history with this song, but ultimately, it is about getting over the rejection of a first love.
12. Long Live - I wanted to end with a positive one. She wrote this for her fans, it is about triumph and joy.

Happy listening!
And to all the other Swifties out there, happy TS12 day! 🫢
