Poet, teacher, and designer Alice Fogel studied art and literature at Antioch College in Ohio and earned an MA in creative writing, literature, and poetry from the University of New Hampshire. Her books of poetry include Elemental (1993), I Love This Dark World (1996), and Be That Empty (2007). She has also written a book about understanding poetry, Strange Terrain: A Poetry Handbook for the Reluctant Reader (2009). Fogel has taught in elementary schools, universities, and community arts programs. She is also a clothing designer who has designed costumes for theater, opera, and film and was head of costuming for Theatre by the Sea in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
