The Girls' Lacrosse team defeated the Academy at Charlemont on Saturday, May 17 to win their third consecutive RVAL championship.
Dublin beat Stoneleigh-Burnham School in the first round of the tournament 15-1. Mylisha Drayton had 5 goals and 4 ground balls, Hope Fowler scored 4 and had 5 ground balls. Phoebe Bride led in interceptions with 3. Sydney Clarke was unstoppable on defense. Molly Witten had 13 saves and one interception.
With that win, Dublin advanced to the championship game against the Academy at Charlemont, a team they had lost to two weeks previous by a score of 8-7.
In the first half, the two teams were very evenly matched. Dublin led at halftime 8-5. About half way through the second half, Dublin poured on the pressure. Mylisha pressured their goalie on a clear, causing her to score on herself, which deflated Charlemont's confidence. Further damaging their confidence was their inability to stop Mylisha's 6 goals in that half alone (she scored a total of 9 in that game alone). The final score was 18-8. Molly Witten had 7 saves and one assist. Charlotte Caron successfully shut out Charlemont's high scorer by face guarding her during the entire game. Anna Rozier played tough defense on their other best attackers. Hope Fowler scored 5 goals and had 2 assists.
Dublin has won the RVAL championship every year since it was established in 2011. We will miss our six gradauating seniorts next year: Molly Witten, Mylisha Drayton, Mekhi Crooks, Atsede Assayehgen, Julia Marcou, and Anna Rozier. Special thanks to Leah Star, our fabulous team manager.
