On Tuesday, the Crew Team, along with many other students and faculty, gathered at Thorndike Pond to dedicate their newest boat, donated by Mr. Timothy Steele, father of Erik ’11 and Jillian ’13.
The skull is named in honor of Mr. Steele’s father, Bud Steele. Bud loved crew, and dragged young Timothy to regattas. This legacy of this passion for the sport, and the importance of giving back to the community, helped inspire Mr. Steele to make this gift. After both Mr. Bates and Mr. Steele addressed the group, the Steeles christened the skull with a bottle of champagne (above). The ceremony culminated fittingly with the men’s varsity Crew team taking the boat out on the water, putting it right to use!
