I grew up in southern Maine and enjoyed running and skiing all around New England as I've grown up. I've worked at an overnight summer camp as a counselor and waterfront director in the summers between college and years teaching.
What book has made you think the most? Shantung Compound is a non-fiction book about a group of people imprisoned in a Japanese internment camp in China during World War 2. Throughout the book the author details the daily life of the inhabitants, the challenges that they faced, and the social and spiritual lessons he learned. The book has helped me to reflect on the numerous things often taken for granted and also on the often complex ethical decisions all people face in their daily lives. It has helped me to consider how I work with and help others in spite of disagreements or disparate perspectives and have empathy towards their unique challenges.
What teacher has had the greatest impact on you? Why were they special? My high school English teacher Mr. Markonish had a tremendous impact on me. In his classes I was challenged to be both authentic and clear while also taking significant risks. Additionally, I also loved learning in an environment when enthusiasm and goofiness for the subject matter was celebrated and encouraged. Mr. Markonish's ability to help each student have a unique experience while still being a part of a larger group allowed me to develop uniquely and thoughtfully as a communicator.
How would your friends describe you in three words? Easygoing, goofy, and an early riser

I am most happy when... I'm running around outside with friends or when I'm eating good food afterwards.
What mistake have you made that ended up leading to a positive outcome? The most frequent mistake(s) that come to mind are the times I try to help to much and take the discovery out of the learning process. These moments often have been beneficial because it has led to opportunities to talk and gain perspective on someone else's learning experiences.
If I had a free afternoon I would... Go for a long run.
