Adolescent Counselor - Health Services

B.S. Business Administration, M.Ed. in Counseling, East Tennessee State University

I was born in Bremerhaven, Germany.  I am the 4th of 5 children.  My dad was a career Naval officer who retired when I was 7.  After having lived 6 places in 7 years, we moved to Columbia, SC where I grew up.  My dad taught high school science after retiring from the Navy.   I consider myself a southerner and lived in the south until moving to Maine in 1997.

I have worked with adolescents and young adults my entire professional career.  I taught family science courses at ETSU as an adjunct faculty and was the Director of the Catholic Campus Ministry as well.  I moved to Maine in 1997 and worked as a home based therapist with adolescent criminals and their families. I have been the director of adolescent counseling at the Dublin School since September of 2001.

I am married and have 3 grown children.  I enjoy cooking, running, gardening, knitting, and reading.  I also like fly fishing (although I haven't spent much time doing it in recent years).  I used to tie my own flies as well.

What book has made you think the most? A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. John Irving is a favorite author of mine - everything from The Hotel New Hampshire to In One Person. His symbolism and ability to capture the human condition in words is inspiring.

What teacher has had the greatest impact on you? Why were they special? Dr. Jim Potts. Dr. Potts taught me Intermediate Accounting. He challenged me to be the best that I could be as a student. He also helped me to clarify my personal values and ethics relative to the difference between legality and doing what I knew or believed to be ethical. I would approach him with my dilemnas about case studies. He would say, "it's legal" and I would say, "but it's unethical." Our conversations would end with him saying, "they'd fire your ass, Ms. Beauzay." Hence I am no longer an accountant....

How would your friends describe you in three words? enthusiastic, positive, laughter

What is your favorite course you have taken in high school or college? Russian History in high school because I learned that I could like history as a result of that course and Sr. Doleretta.

I am most happy when... Running around Dublin Lake with my friend.

I was born and lived in Bethel, Connecticut until I moved to New Hampshire in 1980. I have two grown children,a son Ben and a daughter Molly.  My work experience includes ICU, college health,  summer camp ,environmental camp and survival camp , senior mental health, occupational health ,hospice and visiting nurse and brain injury rehabilitation.  I believe that working with young people keeps you young at heart . Animal rescue is my life's passion. I enjoy any time spent with my "kids", reading, volunteer work, Sunday drives, suppers with friends and anything chocolate.

What book has made you think the most? On Death and Dying by Elizabeth Kubler Ross

If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be? I would have the power to make human beings more  like animals in their capacity for unconditional love ,loyalty , intuition and honest responses.

If your life had a theme song, what would it be? Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me...........

What teacher has had the most impact on you? How were they special? Carol Brawley, my high school English teacher.  She was to the point, approachable and real.

How would your friends describe you in 3 words? Hmmm. Well I can only guess that  the words might be independent, humorous and compassionate

You are hosting a dinner party and must invite 3 famous people. Who would you choose and why?  My taste in all things is eclectic, so off the top of my head I'd say Fred Rogers (Won't you be my neighbor? ) , Barbara Woodhouse ( a British dog trainer) and Dr. Waynne Dyer ( motivational speaker).  I do feel badly leaving out such folks as Walt Disney, Leo Buscaglia, Rosa Parks, and HelenKeller. Anyone altruistic attracts my attention.  If there's a lot of food could I invite thirty instead of three?!

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?  I think Ellen Degeneres. I really appreciaite her genuine and candid nature.
