Groves, Malcolm

B.A. Bowdoin College

I grew up in Vermont where I developed a love for outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, and fishing. I then went to college in Maine where I studied chemistry and competed on the cross country ski team. In my first year out of college, I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to teach, coach, and be part of the Dublin community.

What book has made you think the most? I really enjoyed Catch 22 by Joseph Heller; it was one of the more thought-provoking and original books I have ever read.

What teacher has had the greatest impact on you? Why were they special? Professor Takematsu, my chemistry research advisor at Bowdoin, had a profound impact on the way I approach learning. She challenged me to engage problems in new ways and to understand how small research topics fit into the big picture of science and life.

How would your friends describe you in three words? Adventurous, empathetic, and thoughtful

If I had a free afternoon I would... put on my running shoes and explore a new trail system.

What is your favorite outdoor activity? I love trail running in the White Mountains during the summer and going on long cross-country skis during the winter.
