In the fourth NEPSAC Qualifier race, Dublin School athletes competed against skiers from Brewster Academy, Proctor Academy and New Hampton School at Gunstock Mountain.
Dublin Wildcat’s Mya Kerwin starting number one placed fourth after the steep icy slope caught her off guard at the second gate,after the bobble in the first run the second run was make up time and top five was the day. This would set the tone for the day. Summer Bryton from New Hampton took first place. Ann Ratta in 10th place, Laura Coffin in 11th place, Faith Lewis in 19th and Madeleine Pelissier in 20th.
For the boys Nick Runyon brought the top finish in 7th, followed by Reed Brencher in 8th, Sean Brown 10th Pearce O’Brien starting last pulled a 15th just ahead of Eric Freeman in 17th. Overall combined results for the schools showed Brewster Academy in first place followed by Proctor Academy in second, Dublin in third and New Hampton in fourth.
A number of athletes did not finish, the steep ice conditions took a toll on the results of the day.
Difficult conditions caused several holds on the course, over 50% of the field did not finish. Dublin school athletes were prepared and ski racing is a tough sport with many variables.
