DublinInspires - Andrew Evans, magician and designer captures Dublin audience

DublinInspires brings new experiences to our students, honoring our mission to awaken a curiosity for knowledge and a passion for learning. Approximately once per month, a Friday evening is dedicated to a special performance or presentation.

Andrew Evans is a professional magician and illusionist who brings a modern twist to classic magic. He also consults for theatrical production set design and his background in engineering and product design helps him create unique illusions that have impressed audiences on six continents. When he's not on stage, Andrew is a Design Lead at IDEO and a Guest Lecturer at the Stanford D.school. He regular speaks at companies around the Bay Area about the intersection of Magic and Design.

Andrew joined Dublin for the day, sitting in on and lecturing at a number of design and PRISM classes. On Friday night, he entertained, enthralled and taught the Dublin audience about magic and design outside on the FAB patio. His performance was an act in three acts - a warm-up of four magic tricks using a deck of cards to read minds; performing the classic slight of hand rope and knot trick flawlessly; transporting a dollar bill into a lemon and an egg; and using an iPhone calculator together with a series of volunteers to tell the date and time. The second act was a fascinating  talk about his life as a product designer and magician and how they intersect. The final act was to make a table levitate - it appeared to fly through the air.

It was a fantastic and inspirational evening of magic and more.
