Emily Ruggeberg ’10 has been selected as the 2017 Curatorial Fellow for the Mildred Hawn Gallery at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Emily is an art historian who has specialized in modern and contemporary art with a focus on feminist and performance art. On her time at the Dublin School, Emily says, “Dublin was formative for me in the sense that it provided me with the confidence to advocate and think for myself.” She credits the small class size, senior seminars, and her time as a proctor as providing her with the confidence to lead discussions with peers and present her work and opinions to co-workers. She would love to see more Dubliners working in the arts, and advises others with an interest to, “…expose yourself to as many periods and mediums of art as possible. In a competitive field like curating or museum work, it's important to find your specialty to stand out from other candidates”.
The Hawn Gallery is located in the Hamon Arts Library at the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU. Emily will curate three exhibitions during the academic year that enhance and complement the school’s curriculum.
