On Senior Day, Dublin took on Vermont Academy. Somehow 30 hours of rain ended about two hours before the game and the sun emerged for our Seniors last home game. The game was a spirited, if sloppy affair, with numerous dropped balls and foul calls (40% of the team sat for SATs in Bedford NH in the morning and five hours of standardized testing seemed to result in a tired team).
Dublin scored 17 seconds into the game and had an early 2-0 lead. Dublin played well in the first four to five minutes of the game but seemed to lose focus. VA climbed back into the game and the first half ended with a slight 4-3 Dublin lead. Dublin scored early in the second half to make it 5-3 but started to get impatient against VA’s double team defense and rushed our attack. We finally settled down in the last third of the game and had a very productive three minute period where we showed patience with the ball and scored three consecutive goals to extend the lead.
We want to congratulate our seniors: Noelia Calcano (Hamilton, NJ); Somali Green (New York, NY); Sabrina Hayden (Marlborough, NH); Brianna Moore (Irvington, NJ); Madeline Pastan (Marblehead, MA); and Shaneil Wynter (Brooklyn, NY) for their incredible contributions to the Dublin lacrosse program over the last four years. When they arrived at Dublin, we could not compete with teams like Vermont Academy. As today demonstrated, with their leadership, we now can compete and win against such programs even when we aren’t completely on top of our game.
Dublin scoring: Bette Imhoff (Dublin, NH) 4G, 3A; Sabrina Hayden 3G, 1A; and Stella Davis (Dublin, NH) 1G. Goaltender Amani Natson (Hillside, NJ) had six saves including several at a critical juncture in the game.
