Junior Nationals Day 1

The waxing area at Lake Placid

The waxing area at Lake Placid

Day one at Junior Nationals in Lake Placid went very well for our two Dublin School skiers, Calvin and Lilly Bates. The organizers moved the venue from the Olympic trails to the Olympic jumping venue, where they were able to make enough snow to cover a 2.5 km loop in about 16 inches of compressed snow. While the venue will get a little repetitive for the skiers it is great for spectators.

Calvin had a solid race in the U20 10km skate race and finished as the 20th American. He looked strong on the climbs and paced himself well over the four laps.

Lilly was very happy with her race and finished 16th in the U16 5 km skate race. She finished 3rd among the high powered New England girls team and scored 5 team points toward the Alaska Cup, the award for the strongest regional team in the country (New England already has a good lead over Alaska in second place).
