The Girls' Varsity Basketball team concluded a successful season as the number 1 seed in Class E of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council annual tournament. It was a season of firsts, beating a number of teams from much larger schools and competing against some of the best programs in New England. This is the first time Dublin has been in the tournament, and the girls worked very hard all season against some very talented teams in order to achieve their results.
The girls' varsity team played in their first NEPSAC tournament against Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall on March 2. The girls mounted a smothering press early and achieved an insurmountable 26-5 halftime lead. Due to some unfortunate timing, most of the varsity players were leaving immediately after the game for school trips to India and Pittsburg (dance team). The second half featured many players who were asked to join the team for the remainder of the NEPSAC tournament despite having limited basketball experience. Dublin cruised to a 35-13 final.
Two JV players , Mia Brady and Katia Dermott, and two rookies, Lilly Campbell and Rielly Harrison filled out the roster for the remainder of the tournament. They showed typical Dublin School moxie, grit and courage in playing a sport that is somewhat outside their comfort zone at a high level of competition. Predictably, while the truncated team played nobly and with great fortitude, they fell in the semifinals. We look forward to a return to the playoffs next year with a complete squad.
