Now everyone has race experience: for the last Wednesday regatta of the season each boat driver was a new-this-year-or-new-last-year sailor and their crew was the experienced 'old hand.'  Dubliners sailed 5 races in a light-to-medium surge-fade wind pattern on a course which featured some challenges they had not yet seen this year:  the leeward mark was in shallow water near the club beach leaving little 'bail-out' room if a boat overshot the mark - but a not-likely-to-do-damage sandy bottom if it did.  More tactical, the start/finish line was 'closed' to boats coming down wind.  Boats had to decide which side of the 'closed gate' was most advantageous to go around.  Between races the coaches adjusted the leeward mark position so the gate decision changed from race to race.
