On Wednesday we were asked to host the first race of the season since our new snowmaking system created the only race-able course in our prep school league. Our snowmaking guru Jeremy Bouchard, Athletic Director Brooks Johnson, and Director of Grounds Andy Hungerford and his team made sure we had a high quality course. Alexei Sotskov from Vermont Academy ran two great races, one for beginners and one for more experienced skiers.
Most of our beginner skiers had only skied for one afternoon before this first race! They were awesome and had such great attitudes. We raced a relay with two person teams. Each member of the pair skied two legs and tagged off to one another in a chaotic tag zone.
Some of our skiers even learned how to tag one another while moving so that they did not lose any momentum.
We were very excited when we noticed that Geoffrey was opening up a big lead during his lead off leg. After the tag zone, Nick opened up a bigger gap and the pair cruised to victory on their second day on snow!
After the excitement of the beginner race we turned our attention to the fourteen experienced Dublin skiers in the varsity race. We made teams based on speed and had some excellent coed teams in the race.
Hyelom broke a tip on his pole before recovering to tag Lilly in her first Dublin School race.
Lilly did a great job of inspecting the snow conditions.
Lilly recovered well and skied two great legs!!
Our top pairing of George Henry and Ryan had quite an exciting race involving multiple lead changes with traditional skiing powerhouses Proctor. Both skiers had one of their best races as Dublin skiers.
Ryan had a strong leg and kept the pair in the running, helping them to a second place finish.
Congrats on their second place finish!
