The crowd filling Dublin's Whitney Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon of the school's Winterfest weekend was treated to a thriller, as boys Varsity basketball went toe to toe with Bradford Christian Academy in a game that needed four minutes of overtime to produce a winner. Trailing 24-17 at halftime, the Wildcats erased the deficit with an 8-0 run to start the second half. It was nip and tuck the rest of the way, until a three-pointer by BCA's Oscar Lopez, who had 32 points on the day, put the visitors up by three with twenty seconds remaining. With the crowd on its feet, Dublin pushed the ball up the floor and into the hands of freshman Will Campbell '19, who knocked down a 23-foot jump shot to send the game into overtime. Despite the momentum, the home team faded in the final period, unable to stop BCA's offensive attack, and fell by a final score of 59-53. Campbell had an excellent game overall, scoring 17 points to lead the Wildcats. Hunter Bachman '16 also had 17 to go with 11 rebounds. Danny Figueroa '16 had his first "double-double" as well, scoring 13 and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Dublin (6-7, 5-0 RVAL) will host Paulo Friere on Friday, February 5, in the schools' last game before the league tournament next week.
