Dublin's Varsity boys basketball lost their season-opener on Wednesday, falling 73-58 on the road at Cardigan Mountain School. The visitors dug themselves a hole early on, trailing 13-3 in the opening minutes and 42-26 at halftime. Plagued by foul trouble throughout, and shooting just 2 of 17 from three-point range, the Wildcats nevertheless showed some spark in the second half, clawing their way back on the strength of a team-high 14 points and 8 rebounds from freshman Will Campbell '19, playing in his first high-school contest. After two free throws from Casey Burgess '18 with 2:30 remaining, the Cardigan lead was cut to 10 at 62-52, but Dublin couldn't close the gap further. Senior co-captains Danny Figueroa '16 and Hunter Bachman '16 had 12 and 11 points respectively, and Figueroa added 4 assists. Guard Sebastian McLinden '16 finished with 9 points and 4 steals on the night.
Dublin (0-1) travels south on Saturday for a 6:30 pm non-league matchup with Groton School.
