We had a beautiful two hour ski on Sunday afternoon on the newly paved roads around Harrisville and Nelson, NH. The foliage was stunning and with temperatures in the high 50's it was good rolling weather. We split the group up so some people could get some quality distance skating while others did 4 x 1 km uphill intervals. We are loving the new Suunto Ambit 3 heart rate monitors and watches that were purchased for the school's Endurance Team. Our athletes are using these super computers on their wrists to monitor their training levels, measure their recovery status, and run their interval sessions. They are even using them for sleep tests that tell them how their bodies are responding to their training load.
I love that our skiers are spending their fall trimesters in other sports--a big part of our Endurance Team philosophy. We believe that high school is too early for student athletes to focus on just one sport or activity. Our serious skiers are getting excellent training in rowing, running and biking this fall (we even have some participating on the soccer, sailing, and dance teams) and are able to supplement these activities with skiing specific workouts throughout each week. They stay fresh, meet different students, learn from different coaches, and have a great time.
