Last week I worked with the ninth grade class on their leadership styles and team roles. I also introduced them to my favorite soda, Moxie! Today I took them outside on a beautiful September morning to give them a tour of the campus beyond the quad. I want them to expand what author Richard Louv (Last Child in the Woods) calls our "radius of youth," that are where we feel comfortable playing and exploring.
We walked up the Imhoff Trail to the brand new writing cabin (see photo) before heading to the top of the Norm Wight Ski Area. I think we take for granted that kids will explore the woods, but when we got to the top of the ski area most of the kids did not know where we were on campus! We have a wonderful group of young men and women in this class who are full of energy and curiosity. It was a great day.
