I spoke with the community today about recent developments in Syria. As a history teacher it is hard to watch our politicians oversimplifying a highly complex situation. I challenged our students to watch and read the news with a critical eye, to pursue a deeper understanding of the context of events, and to ask questions that will help sharpen their insights. If we are educating our young people to enter a democratic and global society they must have the tools to think independently and demand responsible action from their representatives. After all, our mission states that "Dublin students become men and women who seek truth and act with courage."
