Dear Dublin Community,
I returned from ski practice today and turned on the radio to hear the details of the terrible tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. The latest reports suggest that twenty-eight people were killed, and most were students between the ages of five and ten. I am deeply saddened by this news, and like you I am sure, confused by the source of the violence. Your lives are so precious to us and we make great efforts to ensure your safety. Today Mr. Nemitz lowered our flag to half mast to honor the victims of this senseless violence. We will keep it there for the next six days.
Our hearts go out to our own Tricia and her family, who live in Newtown.
I hope as a school community we can be leaders in the effort to end violence and the sources that lead to it. Let us honor these victims by recommitting ourselves to the power of tolerance for those with whom we disagree and love for those whom we love.
My door is always open to you.
