I am currently in Crested Butte, Colorado on vacation with my family. We took four days to drive from Dublin to Colorado so we could visit alumni and friends of the school along the way. We had never used this trip to visit people and it worked out very well! I think some of our alumni and friends were pleasantly surprised that Dublin was coming to them; not something that happens every day in places like rural Iowa. I took this picture out of the car window in Indiana, but it could have been in almost any state between New York and Colorado. We grow a good deal of corn in this country.
After driving to Colorado almost fifteen times in my life I have developed a love-hate relationship with the state of Nebraska. I must say that I am currently in love with the state; we drove through it at just the right time with the golden light hitting the trees and rivers perfectly. I am not sure my kids agree with my 600 mile affair with the state and they are campaigning hard for a return trip to Dublin through Kansas instead.
Right now I am enjoying attacking the stack of books that has been building up all year, spending time with the family, riding my new mountain bike, enjoying the stunning high mountain wild flowers in the area, and thinking a little about next year. I hope everyone is having a great summer.
