We had a record October snowstorm over the weekend and received almost 30 inches of wet snow on the top of our ski area. The campus kicked into full gear on Saturday with Work Gangs delivering generators to outlying buildings and preparing the campus for the storm. The proctors and weekend duty faculty organized a Halloween party in Lehmann while Erin Bouton, Aron, Tymira and Mekenzie put on a community party for the local kids in the town.
On Sunday, hoping to get first tracks of the season on Norm Wight Ski Area, I shoveled out the house and headed up to the slope only to realize that Rich Connell and John Adams had beaten me to it! This morning I gave out ski patches to John (pictured above), Nicolas (first student on the hill), Tucker (first student out on Nordic skis) and Bill Farrell (who skied all weekend) to reward them for leading us outdoors.
On Saturday we dedicated the new mews on campus in honor of Colin's grandmother, Mary Anne Sistare, who loved birds and loved her grandson!
Sunday afternoon was eerily quiet and I realized that a great deal of studying was taking place on campus--lots of big assignments coming up in the next two weeks. It was a wonderful weekend of play, service, remembrance, community, and study.
