Ultimate
Team Overview
Team Philosophy
Although Ultimate resembles many traditional sports in its athletic requirements, it is unlike most sports due to its focus on self-officiating, even at the highest levels of competition. This concept, called Spirit of the Game, is integrated into the basic philosophy of the sport, written into the rules, and practiced at all levels of the game from local leagues to the World Games.
Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, a game of Ultimate is played by two teams with a flying disc or Frisbee™ on a field with end zones, similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent’s end zone. A player must stop running while in possession of the disc, but may pivot and pass to any of the other receivers on the field.
Ultimate is a transition game in which players move quickly from offense to defense on turnovers that occur with a dropped pass, an interception, a pass out of bounds, or when a player is caught holding the disc for more than ten seconds. Dublin School Ultimate competes in single matches and one day tournaments throughout New England.
League and Success
Ultimate competes in the SENE Conference.
Coaches
Coach Anderson
I am always excited for the spring season at Dublin and look forward to helping to grow the program over the next handful of years and to taking the team to the next level of competition.
I’ve had a 20-year career in ultimate, playing in college at Penn State and then afterwards in the club division on various Bay Area teams. I played at the World Ultimate Club Championships in 2001 and US Nationals in the Masters Division in 2008. I am a lifetime member of USA Ultimate, the United States national governing body of the sport of Ultimate, and participate regularly in coaches training.
I consider coaching to be a privilege and hope to be an approachable, positive, knowledgeable, fun, hardworking mentor for the student athletes. As coach, my focus is on fostering a team culture of Integrity, Perseverance and Fun while reinforcing:
-
mutual respect and trust between opponents
-
communication and conflict resolution skills
-
self confidence for our players – both on and off the field of play
In addition to teaching players the sport and helping them improve their skills, I look forward to helping them develop their emotional sense of self while competing. I believe there is incredible value in setting high standards for student athletes, and also believe that through their own goal setting they can discover their potential, build mental resilience and find greatness.
