Alpine Ski Team
Team Overview
Team Philosophy
Skiing has been an important part of the DNA of Dublin from its founding. The school built and maintained ski slopes, trails and jumps long before we had a gymnasium. Our location in the heart of the Monadnock region, which is known for its abundant snowfall, allows our athletes easy access to both local and major ski resorts for training and competition.
Facilities and Training
The Norm “PRO” Wight ski slope, which is squarely in the middle of the upper Dublin campus, features a German Multi Skilift, lighted slope and snow making. This area is perfect for race training progressions and drill space for our recreational and racing student body. Our main training facility is located 20 minutes away at Crotched Mountain in Francestown N.H. Crotched Mountain has 100 skiable acres, 100% fan gun snowmaking and lighting coverage, five lifts and 1000 feet of vertical drop. We also utilize other ski areas for training and racing throughout the region.
League and Success
Skiing is a lifelong sport that is greatly enhanced by race training and competition. Our Alpine program is designed to allow skiers from varying backgrounds and skill levels to develop their skills while competing in the NEPSAC conference and in high level USSA competitions. Snowsports Director, Sandy Eneguess, a former professional ski racer and level 500 USSA ski coach, has over 20 years of high level coaching experience and extensive ski racing knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. For the serious racers the team also trains at various camps in the offseason. Recent trips include Mammoth Mountain - CA, Laparva - Chile, and Big SNOW - NJ.
Recent Achievements: NEPSAC Class C Girls' Champions (2023), (2022), NEPSAC Class C Boys' Champions (2022)
Coaches
Director ENEGUESS
Sandy Eneguess, a native of Peterborough, started skiing at age 3. He started skiing on the Peterborough high school ski team as a 7th grader through a special exception. At age 15 he also began competing in canoeing and kayaking placing in the top 3 in the US Nationals in three different canoeing events.
In 1979, he turned ski professional and raced on the American Pro Ski Tour throughout the US, Canada and Europe. He began coaching while still racing with Lathrop ski camps and the Norwegian Development team. After knee reconstruction surgery in early 1983, Sandy turned to ski area management. At Temple Mountain he installed NH’s first Quad chairlift, lights and snow making. He was instrumental in uniting the NH ski areas into one marketing and lobbying group as Ski NH, serving seven years as president of the organization as well as representing small ski areas on the National Ski Area Association. He received life-time leadership achievement awards from Ski NH and NSAA (National Ski Area Associations).
In 1998, he returned to his roots as a ski coach immediately earning the highest available international coaching credentials. He has coached for the US Ski team national development summer camps in Norway. He coached at Cannon, was head coach and program director at Waterville Valley and at Proctor Academy where he was the head women’s FIS coach. He was able to coach both his daughters as they raced during their NH school years taking them to Austria, Canada and France for training. He has organized and coached at preparatory ski camps in France, Canada and Chile.
Coach Thorpe
Wendy Thorpe is a life-long skier with racing experience in both alpine and nordic events. In high school, she was twice named the class B "Skimeister" for the state of Maine. Before joining the Dublin School alpine team, she was a ski instructor for 10 years teaching kids and adults of all ages and abilities. She also was an assistant race coach for Keene High School.
At Dublin School, Wendy assists the head coach on and off the hill, and has contributed where the need fits. Wendy has taught our novice skiers to ski independently, brought our racers to USSA weekend races, and coached our athletes at holiday and summer on-snow ski camps.
Wendy is a certified USSA Alpine Level 100 Coach and races in the local Adult Race League.
Coach saveliev
