This year's Varsity Art team was low on seniors but our juniors really did well and I look forward to a really big year in 2014. We traveled to Pinkerton Academy recently to receive their New Hampshire Scholastic Art Awards. This year a young contingency of seven students won a sum total of sixteen awards, including eight honorable mentions, four silver keys and five gold keys. Junior Che Ryeong Jung led the honorees with three gold keys for her work. All gold key winners go on to compete in the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this spring. Our first freshman winner was Calvin Bates -- Charlotte Caron and Hannah Whitesel both got gold their first time participating.
In other news, Mehki Crooks and Jessica Isaacs are doing independent work with Barbara Schofield learning to sew and will start sewing their own designs with fabric they also designed themselves. Drawing Two students are nearing completion of their excellent first self-portraits, Photo II is finishing up their mock magazine covers which will debut in the cafeteria next week. Sculpture class is progressing nicely and we look forward to trying new things this spring such as slip casting dolls in porcelain and working with three dimensional digital clay software in the spring.
