Earlier this month, the Dance Ensemble headed for a weekend of dance in the Big Apple, led by Jenny Foreman and Director of Development, Erika Rogers.
We were so excited, bound for the Broadway Dance Center in Manhattan, where students Charlotte Caron '15, Mo Zhou '14, Madeline Pastan '17, Shaneil Wynter '17, Molly Hope Forgaard '14 and Maja Hardikar '16 took classes in jazz, hip-hop, funk, ballet, theater dance and tap.
After a shopping trip to SoHo on Friday afternoon, a few of us stayed in the City to catch a performance of The Phantom of the Opera with an amazingly short wait in the TKTS half-price ticket line in Times Square, while the others headed out to Long Island where former Dublin faculty member Lanessa Davis hosted us for the night.
Saturday night, as the guests of alum Cliff Pafford '74, we dancers were joined by a small group of NYC area alums for a wonderful performance by the Parsons Dance Company at the Joyce Theater. Among the repertoire we saw was the company's renowned "Caught," an amazing piece for a solo dancer and a strobe light that inspired us all!
It was a thrill for me as a teacher to see the combination of curiosity, terror and excitement as the girls waited to take their first classes and to hear their intelligent and passionate commentary on the performances we saw. What a tremendous growing experience for the students. I was so proud of the courage and energy they brought to the entire weekend. They rose to the challenge and came out smiling (and sore)! We are all looking forward to our next "outing."
