I grew up in Chappaqua, New York, a suburb one hour north of NYC. I fell in love with New Hampshire after several years of summer camp in Andover, NH plus four years at Dartmouth. During my four years at Dartmouth, I spent two terms in France, one in Toulouse where I studied at the Universite de Toulouse-Mirail and a second doing an internship at a company in Grenoble. I became fluent in French thanks to those experiences. After college, I worked as an advertising account executive, first in Boston and then in New York at SSC&B Lintas. I got married in 1986 and began teaching French the following year at Hackley School, a private day school in Tarrytown, NY. We moved to Keene in 1993 and I stopped teaching in order to raise our two children, Claire and Ross. During those years, I also sang with regional opera companies and community theaters. I returned to teaching in 2003, working both in public high schools in Keene and Peterborough and at Dublin School since 2007.
What book has made you think the most?: Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?: I'd like to be able to fly!
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?: "Je ne regrette rien" by Edith Piaf
What teacher has had the most impact on you? How were they special?: My high school French teacher, Dr. Geraldine O'Neill. She believed in me when I'd lost faith in my ability to be a successful French student.
Rather than allow me to drop French when the going got tough, she gave me the extension I needed and encouraged me to go on the Paris trip. Both were instrumental in fostering my life-long love of all things French, and why I am a French teacher today!
How would your friends describe you in 3 words?: kind, giving and methodical
You are hosting a dinner party and must invite 3 famous people. Who would you choose and why?: Amelie Earhart: I'd want to find out what happened to her and to congratulate her for being such a role model for women.
Gandhi: I would love to be in the presence of such a peaceful and brilliant man.
Renee Fleming: She is my favorite living opera singer. I'd ask her to sing an aria and would simply bask in the glow of her gorgeous voice!
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?: Renee Zellweger
