I was fortunate to attend several schools that taught me a love for learning: a high school where writing skills were given the highest emphasis, and later an art school where our daily work uncovered each student's gift of vision. Mine was a circuitous route to Dublin School. My first calling was as a landscape/portrait painter. Then, while raising my family, I became interested in working with kids of different ages providing academic support. I love helping students discover and apply their strengths while finding their own vision.
What book has made you think the most?: The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara.
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?: I would create a social and economic environment which allowed each individual to attain their own potential.
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?: The overture from the Magic Flute.
What teacher has had the most impact on you? How were they special?: The teacher who had the greatest impact on me taught me through his example of living his work as a "habit of being", as Flannery O'Connor says.
How would your friends describe you in 3 words?: Thoughtful, creative, empathetic.
You are hosting a dinner party and must invite 3 famous people. Who would you choose and why?: I would have liked to know the painters of the Barbizon School who gathered together at the Auberge Ganne: Corot, Daubigny and Millet. I would have liked to hear them talk about their work and their ideas.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?: I'd let the director decide.
