I grew up at Rumsey Hall School in Washington, Connecticut and Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Massachusetts. After attending Northfield-Mt. Hermon and then college, I began my teaching career at Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, Connecticut. Because I have been teaching in boarding schools since then, I have lived out of a dorm only ten years of my life. I prefer clapboarding my 18th century house, getting wood in for the winter, mowing and other outside jobs to cooking. I always have a knitting project going which I work on during meetings. My favorite pastime is spending time with my grandchildren, Eli and Emma, who live next door.
What book has made you think the most?: The Old Man and the Sea
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?: I would like to have powers that eradicate hunger, poverty, prejudice and crooked politicians.
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?: "With a little help from my friends"( and family).
What teacher has had the most impact on you? How were they special?: Although he was a teacher but not mine, my first headmaster as a young teacher, Richard Rouse, was a most important mentor who supported me but also gave wonderful constructive criticism as I began my teaching career.
How would your friends describe you in 3 words?: loyal, strong, honest.
You are hosting a dinner party and must invite 3 famous people. Who would you choose and why?: I would rather invite my parents and grandparents than any famous people because I now know the questions I should have asked them but never did.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?: Anyone with "backbone".
