History B.S. Florida St. University
After graduating from FSU in the spring 2001, I began my teaching career at my alma mater in the fall of that same year. I taught a wide range of history offerings including American History, AP US Government and Politics, Law Studies and Florida History. I was very active in the athletic program there serving as the business manager for 4 years. In August 2006, I left the sunshine state and arrived on the campus of Dublin School. It did not take me long to fall in love with New England and all its beauty!
While at Dublin I have taught World History II, US History and a variety of electives. During the summers I have endlessly sought professional development opportunities to further my own knowledge to share with my students. I am a fellow of the Cohen Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State, as well as a fellow of the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous.
What book has made you think the most?: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?: I'd love the ability to be in two places at once! This would take multi-tasking to a whole new level!
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?: "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel OR "When We Were Young" by The Killers Both tunes put a huge smile on my face.
What teacher has had the most impact on you? How were they special?: Joan Barrentine and Shelley Reed were my high school English and American History teachers and they have certainly shaped the kind of teacher I am today. Joan's passion for innovated teaching up until the day she retired after 42 years in the classroom has shown me to always seek new ways to inspire my own students. Shelley shared her love and enthusiasm for literature during the academic day and tirelessly listened to me and my teenage trials and tribulations, as well as taught me many important life lessons after the bell rang at 2:50. I am grateful for these two phenomenal women who have not only mentored me through the years; they are dear friends.
How would your friends describe you in 3 words?: Organized, Clear or Thorough, Patient
You are hosting a dinner party and must invite 3 famous people. Who would you choose and why?: I would invite Abigail Adams, Theodore Roosevelt and Ella Baker to a dinner party. I would want to ask them specific questions about the period of time in which they lived, but I would be most entertained to hear the questions they would ask each other. I would want to know more about Abigail's political opinions and how they differed from her husband's. I have always been intrigued by Roosevelt's public life before, during and after his presidency. Ella Baker would be on my guest list for her work not only during the Civil Rights's Movement, but also for her fearless attitudes towards women's rights as well.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?: Some Dublin students suggested that either Drew Barrymore or Kirsten Dunst could play me in a movie. While this is quite flattering, I would have to say that a movie about me might be too boring for Hollywood's taste.
