I have almost a decade of environmental and adventure education experience. My interest in the outdoor field was sparked at Vincennes University in Indiana where I took an Adventure Recreation class and developed a passion for outdoor adventure. Later, after studying Outdoor Recreation and Resource Management at Indiana University, I moved to New Hampshire where I taught in the outdoor classroom at Sargent Center for Outdoor Education. My summers were spent leading wilderness trips for high school students in backpacking, canoeing, sea kayaking, climbing, and mountain biking. After trip leading for several summers, I became director of the trip program at Sargent Center's Adventure Camp. I have also taught environmental education at Alton Jones in Rhode Island and for Sycamore Land Trust in Indiana.I enjoy playing the guitar and am in the process of writing a novel. Since coming to Dublin School, I have also developed an interest in writing, filming, and editing short films.
What book has made you think the most?: The River Why by David James Duncan
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?: A magic pocket or bag that would produce anything that I needed at the right moment (i.e. a pen and notepad when I have to write something down, a tool when I have to fix something, etc.)
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?: I think it would be great if the A-Team theme song would play every time I walked into a room.
What teacher has had the most impact on you? How were they special?: My Humanities professor during my freshman year of college was the most influential educator in my life. I was having a rough time with the transition from high school, and I was beginning to doubt my decision to go to college. His teaching style and passion for literature, art, music and great thinkers inspired me to follow my own passions and to become a better student.
How would your friends describe you in 3 words?: Hopefully, they would choose positive words.
You are hosting a dinner party and must invite 3 famous people. Who would you choose and why?: Johnny Cash, Yvon Chouinard, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I think that it would make for interesting and often times hilarious conversation. I would love to hear their collective take on various topics.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?: Young Bill Murray.
