Having waited seven days since their last match, the Dublin School Girls’ Soccer team was excited to face their rival and River Valley Athletic League opponent Putney School on Wednesday. After a late arrival by the visitors the kick-off finally took place and the evenly matched squads traded possession throughout the first half. Dublin was able to capitalize on 2 of several scoring opportunities while Putney’s lone first half goal came off a penalty kick following an unfortunate Dublin hand ball in the 18 meter box.
The second stanza was much like the first with both teams gaining scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the Dublin girls weren’t able to get it past the Putney goalie while their foes tallied two scores to take the win.
Dublin goaltender Sierra Riley ’16 (Harrisville, NH) played the full 80 minutes and made some terrific saves to keep her team in the hunt. Bette Imhoff ’18 (Dublin, NH) earned the Woman of the Match honors for her grit and determination at midfield.
Dublin (4-2, 3-2 RVAL) will host Vermont Academy on Saturday October 10th for a 2:30pm match on Memorial Field.
