Developing Talent: Into the Woods

I still cannot quite get over how wonderful the Into the Woods shows were in the Fountain Arts Building over the weekend. The acting, the atmosphere, the music, the blocking and timing, and the general energy of the show made the whole experience feel both highly professional and intimate. I have been working on a video of the process that went into creating such a great show but my computer died on me during the editing (I know, I sound like a student!).

After reading the Talent Code this past summer I have been thinking about how we are creating "hotspots" at Dublin--areas where our faculty are developing talent through deep practice within our community. The soon to be released movie captures how our Theater Director Jenny Foreman builds the voices of her actors and helps them bring stories to life. You will notice that, like all of our teachers, Jenny puts the student at the center of their learning and gives them responsibility for their own growth. We only see the performance, but the process--the long rehearsals, the repetition and innovation--reveals how she develops their true talent. While my computer awaits my next appointment with an Apple "genius" I give you this brief interview with Jenny describing her cast.
