Boys JV Basketball

The boys' basketball program goes back many years at Dublin, but in recent seasons it has gained considerable popularity. So much so that in 2011 the athletic department, in an effort to meet the increased interest, started the school's first-ever junior varsity boys basketball squad.

The varsity team's 20-game season runs from early December through the end of February. Because we're not as big as some of the other programs that participate in the competitive Lakes Region League, our schedule consists of a mix of varsity and junior varsity opponents. Directed by head coach Jesse Jackson, the coaching staff is committed to maximizing the talent and effort from each player, all within an environment that encourages leadership and fosters confidence.

The team's season consists of practices four days a week and games every Wednesday and Saturday. In recent years Wildcat basketball has enjoyed some much deserved success. One of the highlights of the year happens at the end of the season, when the squad travels to New Hampton, New Hampshire, for an annual junior varsity tournament at New Hampton School. In 2008 the boys' team took home the title, then nearly repeated the accomplishment the following year, before losing a heartbreaker to rival, High Mowing.

School support for the program is strong. A healthy contingent of students and faculty attend road games, while home games are a true event at Dublin. Whitney Gymnasium fills up with fans and contests often include several entertaining fan-related half-time events, such as half-court shot contest, blind shooting, and a relay race.

The JV basketball team lost its season-opener, 47-32, on the road at the White Mountain School. After trailing 26-7 at halftime, the Wildcats rallied back to win the second half on the strength of Shutong Luo's inside presence, which was good for 16 points, 5 rebounds, and a blocked shot. Seven players scored for Dublin (0-1), whose next game will be at home on December 10th against Brewster Academy.

Tenacious defense led to a number of fast-break opportunities for the Wildcats, who jumped out to an 11-1 lead after the first four minutes of the game, and never looked back. Ben Phillips carried the team with 17 points and five rebounds; Chad Foster scored 16, many of them coming on fine slashing moves to the bucket. Shutong Luo, Tyler Jones, Wenzhi Cai, Yunfan Ge, and Sasha Popov also contributed in the scoring column.
