Wed. February 22nd @ 1 PM -- Slalom Championships @ Blackwater

Andover, NH (February 22, 2012) – In their last race of the 2012 winter season, the Dublin School Wildcats’ alpine ski team competed at the Lakes Region Slalom Championships this past Wednesday. Hosted by Proctor Academy at the Blackwater Ski Area, the Wildcats went up against some of the top preparatory school programs in New Hampshire. The course opened for inspection at noon, and racing commenced at 1:00pm. There were twelve teams in attendance, and each was able to field 8 boys and 6 girls at the varsity level. The top 4 boys’ and 3 girls’ times would go towards the team’s overall placement.

Racing began with the girls, and representing the Dublin School were Katie Houde, Riley Lawton, Margaret Elliot, Amanda Bartlett, Iva deMartelly, and Saioa Ochoa. Dublin’s top finishers were Katie Houde (16th of 49), Amanda Bartlett (31st of 49), and Riley Lawton (35th of 49). Furthermore, many of the girls’ had their personal best times over the course of the 2 runs. The combined scores of these three ladies ranked the Wildcats at 9th out of 10 schools, defeating New Hampton School, and just out of reach of White Mountain School and Berwick Academy. St. Paul’s School took 1st place overall for the girls.

Next up were the boys, and representing Dublin were Tucker Wheeler, Danny Harrington, Owen Wood, John Zimardo, and Daniel Mallory. The top four Dublin racers were Tucker Wheeler (39th of 71), Danny Harrington (45th of 71), John Zimardo (59th of 71), and Daniel Mallory (60th of 71). These four combined scores put Dublin in 12th place overall, falling just short of Vermont Academy and New Hampton School. The winner of the boys’ SL was Kimball Union Academy.

This year was the second time in recent history that the Dublin School competed in the Lakes Region Slalom Championships, and marks the first time that the school has qualified for overall placement at the event. In the 2011 season, not enough racers completed the course successfully to make the rankings.

This concludes the 2012 alpine skiing race season! Thank you to all of those who supported the team throughout the course of the winter, and a special thanks goes to Joe Hampsen from UNH for assisting the team in its first month of training. See you next year!
